LINKS TO DEATH! Benue Links buses turn moving coffins (PHOTOS)

By Ameh Godwin and James Ewaoche Amedu

In what could be termed as clear ‘cases of poor management and total negligence,’ vehicles belonging to Benue Links Transport Limited, have literally turned moving caskets.
Investigations by IDOMA VOICE have shown that buses belonging to the company, owned by the Benue State government have within the recent time involved series of accidents, killing scores of persons.

Our reporter observed that the struggling company took off in February 1988 under the then leadership of military administrator, Fidelis Makka with an initial fleet of only 10 buses offering transport services within the state.
It grew and expanded across the country when the then Governor George Akume, by late year 2000; purchased over 20 Marcopolo buses to boost its operations.

However, checks recently show that most of the vehicles have been abandoned due to poor maintenance culture since the current government, led by Samuel Ortom came on board.
Our findings show that most vehicles belonging to the company had been involved in over 10 separate fatal mishaps between October, 2016 and February, 2016.

Towards the tail end of last year, a bus belonging to the company verred off the road atop Akwanga Hills in Nasarawa State and landed in a ditch, injuring scores of persons.

Similarly in January 21, 2017, a bus belonging to same company somersaulted along the ever-busy Makurdi – Lafia road, killing one passenger and injuring several others.
The company in another fatal crash in November killed four passengers while few passengers sustained various degrees of injuries including the driver.

On Thursday, February 16, 2017, a bus belonging to the company was involved in another ugly auto crash, which led to the death of two NYSC members along Taraba – Benueroad.
The rate of accidents involving Benue Links became noticeable since the mass retrenchment of workers by the current government.
Reports had it that workers of the company have not been paid for months now.
