Liverpool-Everton clash delayed due to severe weather conditions

The Merseyside derby between Premier League leaders Liverpool and Everton, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed due to severe weather brought by Storm Darragh.

Strong winds and heavy rainfall have caused significant disruption across western parts of the United Kingdom, leading to travel chaos and safety concerns.

Everton announced the postponement in a statement following consultations with both clubs, local police, and Liverpool City Council. “While we understand the disappointment this will cause supporters, the safety of fans, staff, and players remains our top priority,” the statement read.

This match was set to be the final league derby at Everton’s historic Goodison Park, which has been the club’s home since 1892. The team will move to a new 53,000-capacity stadium next season.

Liverpool currently sit seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table after 14 games in the 38-match campaign.

The adverse weather has also affected fixtures in the Championship, with matches in Plymouth and Cardiff called off on Friday. The MET Office issued a rare red weather warning for southwestern England and Wales due to the intensity of the storm.
