The Benue State Chapter’s Forum of Local Government Inspectors, led by Mrs. Christy Anumve, Director of Monitoring and Inspection, paid a familiarization visit to Hon Dr. Dennis Akura, the Adviser on Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, at the Bureau Headquarters in Makurdi, October 16, 2023.
During the visit, Chairman of the Forum, Comrade Emmanuel Etonu, exchanged pleasantries with the Adviser and described Hon Akura’s appointment as “historic” and well-timed. Comrade Ochonu, who highlighted the Adviser’s achievements within two weeks of official resumption, emphasized the prompt implementation of imprest payments, salaries, pensions, and other critical reforms. He emphasized that these efforts will significantly address the needs and aspirations of workers in the Local Government Areas.
The forum’s chairman also requested the provision of computer gadgets to assist the Local Government inspectors in compiling their reports efficiently and on time. He stressed the necessity for suitable accommodation for inspectors in the Local Government areas and urged that the inspectors’ statutory entitlements be consistently provided to ensure the smooth functioning of the Local Government System.
Chairman Etonu concluded by praying for wisdom and political will for Hon Akura to effect positive change within the local government system. In response, Hon Akura lauded the inspectors as the “eyes and ears” of the Adviser in the local government areas, urging them to perform their duties diligently.
Furthermore, the Adviser assured that he would collaborate with the 23 Local Government Chairmen, facilitated by Rev Fr Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, to renovate the Local Government Quarters and address the accommodation challenges in the Local Government areas.
