Lookman downs Milan as Atalanta secure ninth straight Serie A win

Ademola Lookman propelled Atalanta to the top of Serie A with a late match-winning goal in their dramatic 2-1 victory over AC Milan on Friday.

The Nigerian forward headed home his 10th goal of the season in the 87th minute at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, sealing a crucial win that puts Atalanta two points clear of Napoli.

The 27-year-old capitalized on Sead Kolasinac’s flick from a corner to match Atalanta’s club-record ninth consecutive Serie A win, further fueling their aspirations of a historic first Scudetto.

Earlier, Charles De Ketelaere gave Atalanta an early lead with a powerful header in the 12th minute, delivering a blow to his former team.

Alvaro Morata equalized for Milan in the 22nd minute, but the hosts ultimately triumphed in a fiery encounter.

Napoli, now trailing, face Lazio on Sunday in a high-stakes clash where a win is crucial to reclaim their lead. Antonio Conte’s side must overcome the team that recently eliminated them from the Italian Cup.

Atalanta’s focus now shifts to Tuesday’s Champions League showdown against Real Madrid.

A win could solidify their chances of reaching the last 16 and avenge their Super Cup defeat from August.

With their remarkable form, Atalanta are increasingly seen as serious contenders for the Serie A title come May—an outcome that few would have predicted at the start of the season.
