Looters behind killings in Nigeria – Former Senate President, Ameh Ebute

Former Senate President, Ameh Ebute, has accused looters of sponsoring the ongoing killings in country.

According to the former lawmaker, some looters in a desperate bid to escape arrest and prosecution have resorted to arming youths in order to create unrest in the country.

Ebute spoke at the unveiling of a political pressure group, Good Governance Ambassadors of Nigeria, GOGAN, in Abuja, the nation’s capital on Monday.

He said, “It is a known fact that corruption has physically and physiologically killed many Nigerians. I will give you a few examples, in some Nigerian states where salaries and pension are being owed, even when there is money in the system, many people lost their lives.

“Many of them died as result of corruption, because of their inability to afford money for treatment of event to by food, thereby inviting illnesses that are incurable.

Speaking further, Ebute said the existence of over 65 political parties was “unwieldy” for the nation’s democracy to make any meaningful development.

He lamented that registration of multiple political parties without firm ideology was counter-productive to flourish partisan politics.

His words: “On the issue of political parties, it is my view that there is no political ideology for politicians to consider before jumping from one party to the other.

“The only ideology for now is fighting for access to the national cake so as to have a share of it. I am in support of a two party system.

“This will enable politicians choose whether to be a progressive or a conservative.

“The rate of defection going on in the country has divided the political terrain of the nation into two – the self-serving politician and the public-serving politicians.

“The self-serving corruption are the ones called looters. “These looters bids to avoid arrest armed many young Nigerians to create unrest in the country. This is really sad.”
