Sitting at a Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday, Chief Magistrate Mrs. Cecilia Bakare remanded a 20-year-old mason, Terngu Kunav, who allegedly killed a mad woman with a pestle pending the advice of the state’s director of public prosecutions.Consequently, the court could not take the plea of the accused.
Bakare adjourned the case to Feb. 8 for mention.
The Prosecutor, Insp Hyacinth Gbakor, said that the Chairman of a Makurdi-based vigilante outfit known as Vibrant Unit, Mr James Gwebe, reported the murder at the ‘D’ Divisional Police Station, Makurdi on Nov. 5, 2013.
He said Kunav hit Warkar Ateagh’s head with a pestle and the lunatic died instantly.
He said that the accused was arrested during a police investigation into the matter and that the offence was punishable under Section 222 of the Penal Code, Laws of Benue State, 2004.
