The Policemen in Rukungiri District, Uganda, have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a High School student, Brenda Ankunda.
Ankunda was killed a day to her last Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examination.
The suspect, said to be in his 20s, was reported to be in a relationship with the deceased.
Police picked the suspect from an electronics shop near Rwenshama stage in Rukungiri Municipality on Monday, April 12.
Detectives zeroed in on him after print-outs of telephone call logs showed that the suspect was the last person to talk to Ankunda before she met a brutal death.
A police team led by Mr Victor Arimpa, the deputy Criminal Investigations Department officer at Rukungiri Central Police Station, also searched the suspect’s residence in Farmer’s Village, Rukungiri Municipality. It remained unclear whether they retrieved any items.
Ankunda, a resident of Bugangari Sub-County in Rukungiri, was killed a day to the completion of her UCE examinations. She had left home saying she was going to school to prepare for her final paper.
Her body was retrieved from Kahengye stream on March 31 and taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary where it was identified by the relatives and taken for burial.
Police said it was premature to speculate about possible motive of the killing and believe other suspects are still at large.
