A 35-year-old man, simply identified as “Yellow,” has been apprehended in Ibere, Abia State, for allegedly raping a 5-year-old girl inside a room.
“Yellow” was apprehended by an enraged mob who caught him in the act and subsequently subjected him to a severe beating. Admitting his wrongdoing, the suspect confessed to engaging in sexual misconduct with the young child, claiming that he had enticed her with groundnuts.
In a plea for forgiveness from the irate villagers, the man attributed his reprehensible actions to being misled by the “Devil” and blamed the chilling effects of the rain for heightening his desires.
According to “Yellow,” he had been sitting with friends, sharing groundnuts when he entered the building for a personal errand.
Inside, he encountered the girl and offered her some groundnut seeds, leading her into the room where the assault occurred.
He maintained that he had attempted to be gentle during the course of this reprehensible act.
However, a source from Ibere reported that the assaulted child had been rushed to the hospital by her family for immediate medical attention.
Local authorities took the man into custody, and he is expected to be handed over to the police for a thorough investigation.
As of the time of this report, the state’s police command had not confirmed awareness of the incident, as the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, did not respond to messages sent regarding the matter.
The incident occurred barely four months after a 37-year-old man, Chiemela Ekeke, was sentenced to life in prison in Umuahia for raping a 4-year-old girl.
