It was a tragic day to some residents of Idu community in Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom as some irate youths burnt a man simply identified as Anietie for allegedly stealing trycicle (keke) tyre.
Anietie, whose head was also chopped off in the process, was said to have been caught in the act at the early hours of Monday 23rd, 2020 while trying to commit the crime.
An eye witness, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, alleged that he had been indulging in the act for some times and the day he was caught made it the third time in the series.
“He was caught this morning while trying to steal keke tyre. He has done it before and today made it the third time.
“Some persons dragged him to the middle of the road with thorough beatings, hang him tyre on his neck and have him burnt. While the fire was still razing him, some persons came on motorcycle with machete and cut off his head.
Our correspondent, who visited the compound of the decease reports that the mother could not talk as she was crying profusely without comfort over her son.
But the daughter who simply identified herself as Annabel denied that her brother had never done such a thing he was being accused.
She said that the day before his death “he slept in this house till morning when some came to call him out, the next moment we heard that he was burnt. We asked the people to show us what he stole but nobody did”.
Annabel confirmed that his head after being cut off was brought and dropped at the compound after which his two brothers came and took it and buried.
When Blueprint visited the scene, it was observed that the fire razed all the parts of the body to dust leaving out only the chest region but with no head.
