A Zamfara State High Court has sentenced, Anas Dahiru of Unguwar Dallatu, Gusau,  to death by hanging for the killing of his friend, Shamsu Ibrahim.

The incident, stemming from a dispute over a mere one hundred Naira in 2017, led to the fatal encounter involving a knife.

Presiding Justice Mukhtar Yusha’u, after careful consideration of both sides, affirmed that Anas was guilty of the crime.

The court, in accordance with section 221 of the Penal Code, handed down the death penalty by hanging.

In a separate case, Sadiqu Abubakar faced the judgment of life imprisonment for attempted armed robbery in Bungudu Local Government Area. Sadiqu was convicted for attacking a businessman in Runji village.

The courageous victim apprehended him and turned him over to the police, leading to the life imprisonment sentence.

Barrister Mansur Lawal, the prosecution’s Assistant Director of Public Prosecution in the Zamfara State Ministry of Justice, expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision.

Barrister Muhammad Ahmad Jamo, the legal aid council coordinator for Zamfara State, acknowledged the deterrent effect of the judgment but indicated they would explore the possibility of appealing the case.
