The Zamfara State High Court has pronounced a death sentence by hanging for Anas Dahiru, who was found guilty of murdering his friend, Shamu Ibrahim, over a sum of N100. Dahiru faced charges in June 2017 for allegedly stabbing Ibrahim to death.
Justice Mukhtar Yusha’u, the presiding judge, delivered the verdict after carefully considering the arguments from both sides. The judge declared, “Having listened to both sides, I hereby sentence the convict (Anas Dahiru) to death by hanging as enshrined in Section 221 of the Penal Code.”
In a parallel legal development, the same judge convicted Sadiqu Abubakar for attempted armed robbery in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Abubakar was found guilty of attacking a businessman in Runji village, Bungudu LGA, who successfully apprehended the armed robber and turned him over to the police.
Justice Yusha’u, after hearing from both the prosecution and defense in Abubakar’s case, decreed, “Having heard from the counsel for both the accused and the defendant, I hereby sentence Sadiqu Abubakar to life imprisonment,” in accordance with Section 221 of the Penal Code.
