Man to die by hanging for killing twin daughters in Cross River

A court in Akamkpa area of Cross River State has sentenced one Anyabime Festus Udo to death by hanging for killing his twin daughters.

Festus, in 2017, poisoned the girls, Mfoniso Anyanime and Emediong Anyanime, claiming they were witches responsible for his “predicament”.

Justice Agness Onyebueke said the killing of the twins was “satanic, demonic, and beyond human comprehension.”

The Nation gathered that on January 10, 2017, the convict had given his 11-year-old girls a malt drink mixed with acid. One died on the spot while the second crawled to the road where someone rescued her before she died the following day in the hospital.

Lead counsel of Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, BRCI, James Ibor, Esq. commended the judgment, noting that it came shortly after the United Nations urged nations to take measures against abuses linked to witchcraft beliefs and ritual sacrifice.
