Christian Eriksen has verbally agreed to join Manchester United, according to David Ornstein of the Athletic.
Ornstein writes: “Eriksen has communicated to United that he wants to play for the Old Trafford club and is prepared to accept their proposal of a three-year deal.
“The process of drafting contracts has now started and if that is finalised, the 30-year-old playmaker would need to come through medical tests.”
The medical tests are not expected to be a problem.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano adds that talks with new United manager Erik ten Hag played a ‘key factor’ in his decision.
It caps off a remarkable comeback for Eriksen, who suffered a heart attack during Denmark’s Euro 2020 match against Finland just over a year ago.
Eriksen collapsed to the floor and was rushed to hospital. He had a defibrillator fitted and returned to action in January as he signed for Brentford.
The 30-year-old was brilliant for the Bees as he scored once and recorded four assists in 11 games.
Brentford won seven of the games in which Eriksen started. He was a major reason why they finished well clear of the relegation zone in 13th.
Brentford were keen to extend the Dane’s stay but it appears he has chosen to join the Manchester giants.
United have had a slow start to the transfer window but are set to add to their squad.
Tyrell Malacia arrived at Carrington on Monday morning for the second part of his medical. United have agreed a £15m deal for the 22-year-old left-back.
It’s looking increasingly likely that Eriksen will follow Malacia through the door, while United have also been heavily linked with moves for Ajax duo, Lisandro Martinez and Antony, as well as Barcelona star, Frenkie de Jong.
One player that could depart is Cristiano Ronaldo, though.
