Marc Brys may replace Finidi George as Super Eagles coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is considering appointing a foreign coach for the national team following the Super Eagles’ sluggish start to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

After four rounds of matches in Group C, the Super Eagles are in fifth place with only one point from a possible six during the June internationals against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana and the Republic of Benin’s Cheetahs. The team was forced to a 1-1 draw by South Africa and suffered a humiliating 2-1 loss to the Cheetahs in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Nigeria legend Finidi George, who replaced Jose Peseiro as head coach, has resigned following the NFF’s decision to appoint an expatriate Technical Adviser. According to the Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, the NFF is considering Marc Brys, the current Cameroon national team coach, as a potential replacement for Finidi.

Brys has had a contentious relationship with Samuel Eto’o, Cameroon’s FA chief, and was dismissed by Eto’o last month, only to be reinstated days before the World Cup qualifiers against Angola and Cape Verde.

Despite rumours linking him to the Nigeria job, Brys has stated that he feels good with Cameroon, even amid ongoing conflicts with the Fecafoot president.

Marc Brys has an extensive coaching history, having managed teams such as Germinal Beerschot, Mouscron, FC Eindhoven, Den Bosch, KV Mechelen, Al-Faisaly FC, Al-Raed, Sint-Truiden, and OH Leuven.
