Match-fixing: Samuel Eto’o lawyers deny notice of legal proceedings

Representatives from the French law firm Vey & Associes, acting on behalf of Samuel Eto’o, the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot), have refuted claims suggesting that the former striker has been formally notified of any legal proceedings against him.

In an official statement, the law firm termed the allegations made against the 42-year-old as “calumnious rumours,” emphasizing that Eto’o has not received any official notification of legal action or summons.

Although numerous media outlets reported on Friday that the four-time African Player of the Year was facing legal action related to match-fixing accusations, a Cameroonian police document referred to allegations of “abuse of authority, corruption,” and unspecified claims.

The origins of these police reports seem to stem from a redacted image of what appears to be an official document. However, the BBC, having reviewed the image, has yet to validate its authenticity through confirmation from Cameroonian authorities.
