Matthew Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom “Friends,” has passed away at the age of 54. Law enforcement sources confirm that he was found dead in a hot tub at a residence in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles. Authorities suspect drowning as the cause of death. Emergency responders initially received a call reporting cardiac arrest at the location, but no drugs were found on the scene, and no foul play is suspected, according to TMZ.
Perry, born on August 19, 1969, in Williamstown, Massachusetts, spent his formative years in Canada before moving to Los Angeles. He gained fame as one of the central characters on “Friends,” alongside Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, in the show’s successful ten-season run from 1994 to 2004.
In addition to his work on “Friends,” Perry had leading roles in several films and television shows, including “Fools Rush In,” “17 Again,” “The Whole Nine Yards,” “Three to Tango,” “Almost Heroes,” “The Kid,” and “Getting In.” Following “Friends,” he starred in TV series such as “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” “Mr. Sunshine,” “Go On,” and “The Odd Couple.”
Perry, who released his memoir “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing” in 2021, candidly discussed his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, revealing that he had been sober since early 2021.
