Meet 30-yr-old Buhari’s media aide who allegedly earns more than judges, profs in Nigeria

He came into the limelight in 2016 when his appointment was announced as President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media.

In 2016, Bashir Ahmad was just 24 having graduated from the university three years earlier.

Ahmad’s job was simple. Attack anybody attacking Buhari online.

In 2022 he resigned his position to contest the Gaya/Ajingi/Albasa reps ticket of the APC in Kano but lost woefully.

Shocking reports by Peoples Gazette claimed that despite his resignation, Ahmad was still drawing salary from the federal government.

Few months after losing reps ticket, Buhari reappointed and upgraded Ahmad.

The report also claimed that his gross monthly remuneration was reviewed to N1,043,176.88, this, many citizens considered too high for an employee whose job was only to tweet and presumably manage the president’s social media accounts.

Although, Mr Ahmad’s take-home was N876,738.37 after statutory deductions, it did not include a miscellany of other allowances and federal estacodes attached to presidential aides.

Angry that university professors and medical personnel who go through years of rigorous training phases to acquire their certificates and licences do not earn half of Mr Ahmad’s salary, Nigerians berated the regime for lavishly spending the nation’s insufficient funds on undeserving employees.
