Senegalese duo, Edouard Mendy and Sadio Mane has been shortlisted in the final 3-man list for the 2022 CAF Player of the Year Award.
The Senegalese shot-stopper joined Chelsea in 2020 from French club Stade Rennais for a fee of £21 million after being highly recommended by Chelsea legend Petr Cech.
Mendy kept 23 clean sheets and only conceded 40 goals in 49 appearances for Thomas Tuchel’s side. He was named named as the Senegalese Player of the Year for 2021.
Sadio Mane will be on the podium again after having an impressive 2021/22 season where he inspired his national team to winning the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy in Cameroon, and also helped Senegal qualify for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup at the expense of Egypt.
The now Bayern Munich player won the Carabao Cup FA cup with Liverpool last season, and also finished second in both the Premier League and Champions League.
Mane scored 23 goals in 51 appearances in 2021/22 for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Mohammed Salah made 51 appearances for Liverpool last season, scoring 31 goals while providing 16 assists, and inspired Egypt to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in February.
The 30-year-old forward was named the Professional Footballers’ Association Men’s Players’ Player of the Year and Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year and won the Premier League’s Golden Boot and Playmaker of the Season accolades.
