The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Africa Military Games, Abuja 2024 (AMGA 2024), has announced Nigerian music icon Olamide Gbenga Adedeji, popularly known as Olamide Baddo, as the official Brand Ambassador for the highly anticipated event. The Games will be held from November 18 to 30, 2024, at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
The announcement was made at a vibrant unveiling event on Tuesday at the Lagos Continental Hotel. Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis, Chairman of the AMGA 2024 LOC, stated that Olamide’s appointment as Brand Ambassador aligns with their efforts to boost the event’s visibility, particularly among Africa’s youth.
“Olamide exemplifies resilience, creativity, and unity—values central to the Africa Military Games,” Marquis said. “With his influence, we believe he will inspire a new generation of Africans to celebrate our shared cultural heritage and rally behind the athletes.”
As one of Africa’s leading music stars, Olamide is set to play a key role in promoting the Games and encouraging fans to support the athletes competing in Abuja. In response, Olamide expressed his enthusiasm about the opportunity. “It’s an incredible honor to represent AMGA 2024 and be part of an event that unites our continent through sports and shared values,” he said. “I look forward to using my platform to celebrate our athletes and promote the message of unity that the Games represent.”
Olamide also acknowledged the sacrifices made by the military and expressed pride in supporting their efforts. He reflected on his past dedication to the armed forces, recalling a song he wrote in their honor in 2016/2017, and expressed hope for further collaborations between the entertainment industry and the military to create opportunities for young people.
AMGA 2024 will feature over 44 African nations and 2,000 athletes competing in a wide range of sports, including football, boxing, judo, basketball, tennis, and more. The event highlights the role of sports diplomacy in fostering collaboration and building trust across the continent.
As part of his ambassadorial duties, Olamide will engage in promotional campaigns, media appearances, and on-the-ground activations to generate excitement for the Games and leave a lasting impact beyond the event.
