Minimum wage: We are not embarking on another strike – Labour

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced that it will not commence any strike action on Tuesday to demand a new national minimum wage. This decision was disclosed by NLC President Joe Ajaero during a press conference on Monday.

Ajaero explained that the Tripartite Committee’s proposed figures are currently under review by President Bola Tinubu. He emphasized that the N62,000 proposed by the government has not yet been accepted as the new minimum wage by the labour union.

“We cannot declare a strike now because the figures are with the President. We will wait for the President’s decision,” Ajaero stated.

He further highlighted a precedent set during the tenure of the immediate past president, where the proposed figure of N27,000 by the Tripartite Committee was increased to N30,000 by the president. Ajaero expressed optimism that President Tinubu would make a favorable decision.

“We are hopeful that this president will do the right thing,” Ajaero added.
