Ministerial list: Idoma community laments as Tinubu snubs nomination appeal

President Bola Tinubu’s second batch of ministerial nominees has been released, and it has stirred controversy with the omission of any representation from the Idoma community. The list includes 19 nominees from various states, but despite the plea by Senator Abba Moro for Tinubu to select someone from Benue South, the President turned down the request.

The exclusion of the Idoma community from the ministerial nominees has sparked anger and disappointment among many Idoma people. Senator Abba Moro’s impassioned appeal was an effort to ensure that the voices and interests of his people were represented at the highest level of government. However, their hopes were dashed when Tinubu decided not to include an Idoma candidate in the list.

The Idoma community, a prominent ethnic group in Benue South, has a long history of contributing significantly to the nation’s political landscape. From the first republic to present times, notable Idoma leaders like Abutu Obekpa, JC Obande, Audu Ogbe, Ameh Ebute, and David Mark have played crucial roles in shaping Nigeria’s governance and policies.

Frustration and disillusionment are growing among the Idoma people, who feel that their contributions and aspirations have been disregarded by the current administration. As a result, some members of the community are now voicing their intention to withdraw their support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming elections.

This development poses a significant challenge for the APC in Benue South, as losing the support of the Idoma community could have implications for the party’s electoral prospects in the region. It also highlights the importance of inclusivity and equitable representation in government, especially in a diverse country like Nigeria.
