The lifeless body of a 47-year-old man, who had been swept away by floodwaters on Monday, has been found and recovered on Wednesday in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.
The identity of the deceased remains unknown, but he met his unfortunate fate when torrential rain caused severe flooding on Monday evening, as stated by Hassan Adekunle, the spokesperson for the State Fire Service, in a press release from Ilorin on Wednesday.
Adekunle’s statement reads, “The unidentified man, approximately 47 years old, tragically lost his life as he was swept away by the torrential water and recovered dead today, September 27, 2023.
“At approximately 09:11 hours this morning, the Kwara State Fire Service received a distress call from Mr. Saheed and promptly dispatched their team to the scene of the incident.
“With their unwavering dedication, they successfully retrieved the man’s lifeless body from the turbulent waters, which had come to rest at the Oloje Bridge adjacent to the G’ Division Police Station in Oloje, Ilorin.
“In a formal and compassionate handover, the Kwara State Fire Service transferred the recovered body to Mr. Saka Abdulkareem, the Environmental Officer of Ilorin West Local Government,” the statement added.
Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and urged the general public to exercise caution in their daily activities, particularly refraining from moving from one place to another during heavy rainfall.
