MMS video controversy: BJP leader Kirit Somaiya faces backlash over inappropriate video call

Following the emergence of a viral video allegedly featuring Kirit Somaiya, Congress leader Varsha Gaikwad expressed her strong disapproval on Twitter. Gaikwad’s tweet read, “Disgusted by the video of #KiritSomaiya exposed by a Marathi news channel. The self-styled torchbearer of probity in governance has now been exposed. Those whose morals are questionable have been pretending to be arbiters of public morality.” She further criticized BJP government leaders for engaging in such behavior while promoting initiatives like “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.”

In response to the allegations, Kirit Somaiya demanded an investigation into the alleged viral MMS video. He appealed to Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and a member of the home ministry, to initiate the inquiry. Somaiya asserted his innocence, stating, “I am innocent… I have challenged influential individuals, and now they seek retribution through deplorable methods.” He expressed confidence that a thorough investigation would vindicate him.

In a letter addressed to Devendra Fadnavis, Kirit Somaiya highlighted the timing of the video’s release, coinciding with the first day of the Maharashtra assembly session. He alleged that the video was a politically motivated move to tarnish his reputation. However, VM Kanade, Maharashtra Lokayukta, has cleared BMC of any guilt in a complaint filed against them by Kirit Somaiya.

As the video continues to circulate widely, the Mumbai Crime Branch of the Police has taken up the case and launched an investigation. The video, comprising about 32 clips allegedly depicting Kirit Somaiya in compromising positions, has gained significant attention from the public and media, sparking concerns over its authenticity and origin.
