Mob sets vehicle ablaze after fatal accident claims female trader’s life in Imo

A tragic auto crash occurred on Saturday in Orji community, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State along the Owerri-Okigwe Expressway, resulting in the loss of a female trader’s life. Eyewitnesses reported a heavy-duty vehicle colliding with a commercial vehicle known as Busimo.

The collision was devastating, causing the victim’s head to be severed by the impact. Other passengers on the bus suffered severe injuries and were promptly rushed to various hospitals for medical attention.

The State Police Command swiftly deployed its Traffic Department to the accident site, grappling with the resulting traffic congestion.

An eyewitness revealed, “The auto crash claimed one life and left many injured, all of whom were rushed to hospitals. The victim, a trader, had concluded her business for the day and was en route back from dropping something off for someone in a nearby community called Akabo when the accident occurred, tragically taking her life. It’s a horrific incident, as her head was tragically severed.”

Following the collision, a group of unidentified youths set the heavy-duty vehicle ablaze, sparking panic and confusion among residents who initially feared a bandit attack due to the vehicle’s tires bursting in the inferno.

A resident commented, “We initially believed bandits were on the rampage due to the bursting tires resembling dynamite. It was later revealed that unknown individuals had set the heavy-duty vehicle ablaze.”

The State Police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident and informed that the command had initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
