Operatives of the 67 Police Mobile Force (PMF) on Monday evening foiled an incursion by suspected armed herder bandits into Ugbobi village, located in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.

Security sources disclosed to Zagazola Makama that the assailants struck at about 6:00 p.m., but were met with a swift response from PMF officers deployed to the community.

The sources explained that the mobile policemen confronted the attackers using superior firepower and also fired teargas canisters, which disrupted the assault and forced the bandits to retreat.

“The visiting PMF personnel successfully forced the bandits to flee into nearby bushes,” the sources said.

Following the failed attack, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Apa reportedly deployed patrol teams and other tactical units to reinforce security in the area.

The teams also carried out a sweep of nearby bushes in an effort to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

Security sources added that measures are being sustained to secure Ugbobi and its environs against further threats, while residents have been urged to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious movement.
