Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad, has shared intimate details about his son’s interactions with Naira Marley and Sam Larry in an interview with BBC News Yoruba.
During the emotional interview, Mr. Aloba revealed that his son, Mohbad, had expressed concerns about Naira Marley, referring to him as “evil.” He also disclosed a distressing incident where Mohbad was allegedly beaten by Sam Larry and reported the matter to the police, but no action was taken.
“My son told me Naira Marley was evil. My son passed away around 3 pm, and nobody called me. When I arrived at his house at 10 pm, I found a large crowd. We were denied a police report at the station. We tried to take him to the mortuary, but there was no space, so I had to bury him,” Mr. Aloba stated.
Expressing his deep love for his son, Mr. Aloba recounted visiting Naira Marley’s house, where he witnessed a heartfelt moment between Naira and Mohbad sharing a meal. Despite this, Mohbad had allegedly conveyed concerns about Naira Marley’s character to his father.
The grieving father also shared a distressing incident in which Sam Larry, someone he claimed to have never met before, had reportedly assaulted his son. Initially, Mohbad asked him not to speak about it, but later, he reported the matter to the police, with no subsequent action.
Mr. Aloba emphasized his desire for justice for his late son, reiterating that, as a pastor, he could not resort to traditional methods due to his religious beliefs. He expressed a willingness to undergo a DNA test if required to seek justice for his son.
