Mohbad’s family appeals for witnesses in singer’s death investigation

The legal representatives of the late Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known as Mohbad, have raised concerns about sensitive details related to his death being disclosed to the public rather than being shared with law enforcement.

Taiwo Odumosu, a lead member of the legal team, stated on Sunday that such information should be directed to the police, not the public.

He urged anyone with pertinent information to come forward to assist in the investigation into Mohbad’s death.

“Considering the nature of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba’s (Mohbad) death and the release of information that should have been provided to the police, the Aloba Family’s Legal Team advises that those with relevant information should contact us directly. This will help facilitate proper legal procedures. The police can also be reached to ensure the protection and safety of witnesses and suspects,” the statement said.

Odumosu added that the coroner’s inquest has issued witness summons and emphasized the family’s need for assistance in gathering facts to understand the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s untimely death.

“Please be aware that Joseph Aloba is not pursuing any personal or familial agendas at this time. His sole focus is on uncovering the truth about what happened to his son and the circumstances leading to his death.

The Coroner’s Court is the appropriate venue for disclosing any information that could aid in this fact-finding mission,” the statement continued.

Mohbad passed away at age 27 on September 12, 2023, with his death stirring controversy on social media.

Being a former record label signee of Marlian Music owned by Naira Marley, Mohbad left the label in February 2022. The Lagos State Police Command had on September 18, 2023, inaugurated a 13-man special investigation team to probe the singer’s death.

His death also led to the arrest of Naira Marley and controversial Lagos socialite, Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, amongst others. The singer’s body was on September 21, 2023, exhumed for autopsy to unravel the cause of his death.
