The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) has expressed deep sorrow over the recent demise of the Nigerian rapper, MohBad, who passed away at the age of 27. OPC President, AfolOtunba Wasiuabi, conveyed his condolences to MohBad’s immediate family, management team, and fans, emphasizing that the young musician’s death was an immeasurable and yet avoidable tragedy.
In a press statement signed by OPC General Secretary, Comrade Bunmi Fasehun, Afolabi acknowledged MohBad as a true Yoruba Ambassador, praising his music and artistic contributions that celebrated the Yoruba language and culture.
The statement further conveyed OPC’s belief that if MohBad had sought their assistance when his disagreements with other associates escalated into intimidation, assault, and harassment, the outcome could have been different. OPC has a history of successfully mediating in such disputes, fostering peace and harmony among feuding parties, often in collaboration with law enforcement agencies.
Afolabi stated, “Sometimes we act independently, and sometimes we collaborate with the Police Force, Civil Defence, and DSS. But ultimately, our mission is to protect the vulnerable from powerful oppressors. The mere mention of OPC’s involvement can often bring about a resolution, regardless of an individual or organization’s perceived influence.”
He added, “We firmly believe that MohBad might have lived a better life and could possibly still be with us today if he and his associates had sought assistance from OPC.”
The statement also urged the police, DSS, and government to ensure that all individuals and groups responsible for oppressing, harassing, and assaulting MohBad are brought to justice, regardless of their direct or indirect contributions to his unfortunate fate.
