MOPOL 80 flag-off: Odugbo community donates land, land and vehicles to facilitate squadron

By Morgan Adikwu

The Odugbo community in Benue State has made a significant contribution to enhancing regional security by supporting the newly established Police Mobile Squadron, MOPOL 80, with a donation of 30 hectares of land, operational vehicles, and essential facilities.

This initiative is set to bolster the squadron’s capacity to address the persistent security challenges in Benue South Senatorial District, particularly in Apa and Agatu areas.

On August 18th, 2024, MOPOL 80 was officially flagged off by Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Joseph Onaji, Commandant of the squadron, marking the commencement of full operations.

During the ceremony, the Caretaker Chairman of Apa Local Government, Hon. Ochayi Alidu, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Apa, and the Chief of Odugbo, Chief Simeon Otache, were present to eulogize the instrumental role played by Arc. Sonny Echono in bringing this initiative to fruition.

Hon. Ochayi Alidu praised Arc. Echono for his foresight and dedication to improving security in the region, describing the establishment of MOPOL 80 as a historic achievement for Idoma land.

He equally expressed gratitude to the Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, for his support in addressing the security challenges in Apa and across Benue State. Chief Otache echoed these sentiments, expressing the community’s deep gratitude for Echono’s efforts in securing this critical security infrastructure.

Additionally, the Member of the House of Representatives for Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency, Hon. Ojotu Ojema, was present at the handover of the operational vehicles, further highlighting the significance of this development for the safety and security of the region.

The community’s donation of three operational vehicles was formally handed over by Hon. Sunday Igbene, who assured the Commandant of ongoing support and cooperation from the Odugbo community.

CSP Onaji, in his remarks, emphasized the importance of collaboration and intelligence sharing between the police and the community, reiterating the squadron’s commitment to swiftly deploying over 300 police personnel to secure the area.

The construction of the Odugbo-Ugbokpo road, currently underway, was also mentioned as a critical development that will enhance the operational efficiency of the squadron and improve access to surrounding communities.

The flag-off of MOPOL 80 represents a vital step forward in the effort to restore peace and stability in Benue South, with the Odugbo community’s contributions playing a central role in the success of this mission.
