Morata scores as Atletico Madrid beat Juventus 4-0
Atletico Madrid whipped Juventus in their friendly match on Sunday at the Juventus Training Centre in Continessa, Torino, as Alvaro Morata employed his initiate knowledge of the Italian club to net a hat-trick in the 4-0 win.
In the first 10 minutes, a cut-back from Joao Felix found Morata, who lobbed the ball past Wojciech Szczesny to give Atletico the early lead. Juve attempted to open up Atletico’s defence frequently, notably when Dusan Vlahovic and Angel Di Maria combined, but the visitors were well-organised and kept the Bianconeri attack at a safe distance.
A hand ball in the box by Alex Sandro in the 40th minute led to a Joao Felix penalty kick that was saved by Szczesny at the other end of the field. A few minutes later, Morata received the ball inside the box, avoided Bremer’s challenge, and scored his second. Szczesny was helpless to stop him and Juve trailed by two at half time.
For the start of the second half, Juventus promptly changed the lineup and had a chance to cut the deficit when Matias Soulé’s strike was stopped by Ivo Grbic in the Atletico goal.
Morata scored his and his team’s third goal with just over an hour remaining by deflecting Thomas Lemar’s free kick over Mattia Perin. Matheus Cunha gave Atletico a fourth in extra time to wrap up the preseason fixtures for both sides.
