Moses Simon: Giant strides of Super Eagles star in Agatu

It is common to see a man who is blessed, but it is uncommon to see same who is down to earth and with overzealous passion to do more for his people without any political motive.

Everyone maybe be familiar with famous celebrities donating few millions and relief materials to victims of accidents and natural disasters, but it is almost unheard of for an independent entertainer or sport celebrity to singlehandedly embarked on high capital intensive projects like construction of roads, drainage channels, culverts and boreholes in their community.

Yes! It is happening in Agatu, Benue state, courtesy of Super Eagles and Nantes FC winger, Moses Daddy-Ajala Simon.

No doubt, the 2020 Nantes player of the year is filling up the vacuum created by the government. This he is doing by building infrastructures for his home community. The 25-year-old made national headline sometime this year for funding the construction of roads and drainages in Obagaji, Agatu, his hometown after previously solving the perennial water scarcity problem in the community by constructing boreholes last year.

It was even reported that to ease the pressure on the boreholes, Moses Simon dug many wells in the community so as to make sure that there are enough means of getting water by the people.

During trying times like flood periods, the perennial militia herdsmen attacks on the community, and yuletides, Simon always rise up to his self-saddled responsibility of providing relief materials worth millions of naira to the community. Not to mention those indigenes he awarded educational scholarships, and those he paid for their medical bills. It was even speculated that Moses Simon is already planning to build a world class hospital for the community.
It is in recognition of these and many other of his benevolence, that the Agatu people unanimously agreed to name one of the major streets in Obagaji, the local government headquarters, after him.

Moses Simon plays as a forward for Ligue 1 side FC Nantes and the Nigeria national team, after coming through the Ajax youth academy as a youngster. He was part of the Super Eagles squad who won Bronze at the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt. He won the Belgian Pro League and the Belgian Super Cup with Gent in 2015.
