MTU graduate revolutionizes AI in scientific research

Chukwuma Hilary, a graduate of Mountain Top University (MTU), has gained international recognition for his groundbreaking research on worm mating behavior using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

His study, recently published in a top scientific journal, demonstrates how AI can revolutionize biological research by enhancing the study of animal behavior.

Hilary’s team improved DeepSORT, a leading object-tracking algorithm, achieving a remarkable 77% increase in tracking accuracy—a significant milestone in AI research.

For years, scientists have relied on manual tracking of Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans), a nematode worm widely used in genetic and neurobiological studies. However, Hilary’s AI-powered system now automates this process, saving researchers time and boosting precision.

The Nigerian computer science graduate from MTU has positioned the country on the global research map, showcasing AI’s potential to transform scientific advancements.
