The Muslim Rights Concern in Nigeria has on Tuesday June 5th, 2018 said that the featuring of hijab-clad women dancing Shaku Shaku in Folarin Falana AKA Falz latest music video entitled “This is Nigeria” is offensive to Nigerian Muslims.
Prof. Ishaq Akintola, the Convener of MURIC has demanded that falz take down the video or face legal actions.
“The video was a slap on the face of Islamdom.”
“That video is provocative. That video depicts Muslim women dancing Shaku shaku.” Prof. Akintola stated
However, representatives of the musician has responded that the music video will not be taken down.
Nigerians on social media reacts with different views:
@Ayobami a twitter user says “MURIC folks are so ignorant it’s doing my head in. The Hijab isn’t a symbol of Islam it’s a cultural dress in the middle east and Falz was depicting the Chibok/Dapchi girls. Do they even care about the victims??”
@fixNigeria says “My advise to Falz’s management is to see this issue beyond the legalities of right and wrong. There are layers of social dimensions to it.”
@newscantell says “If at all the video provoked any religion it was the Christian faith, by ridiculing pastors casting out demons via grabbing boobs & attacking pastors involved in establishment of schools which their members can’t attend.
Falz said the truth. MURIC, please focus on the message.”
