Music was never my career choices – Mr Eazi

Renowned singer and entrepreneur, Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, has opened up about his unexpected journey into the music industry. The mechanical engineer-turned-musician admitted that music was not his initial aspiration and that he stumbled upon it by chance.

Mr Eazi shared that he contemplated quitting music after his performance at Coachella in 2019, just three years into his music career, as he didn’t find it fulfilling.

The “Skin Tight” artist explained that he decided to diversify into the tech industry to alleviate his creative burnout. In a recent interview with media personality Angela Lee, he stated, “I have a tech company called Zagadat Capital, which emerged from my growing disinterest in music. After performing at Coachella in 2019, I played on the first day, and upon coming off the stage, I felt absolutely nothing—neither happiness nor sadness. This experience made me reflect deeply.”

“For someone who never aspired to be a musician and was only in my third year of a music career, playing Coachella and feeling nothing was a clear sign. It meant I either had to quit music and pursue something else because that feeling was unsettling, or I needed to take a break, perhaps due to burnout.”

Mr Eazi continued, “When COVID-19 struck, it was the first time I took a pause and contemplated my next move. I had already initiated Empawa and was getting familiar with the music business, but I was exhausted even from listening to music. How could I run a music business without a passion for music? So, I handed that over to my team.”

He added, “Entrepreneurship has always been my ambition, and now that music has granted me access to both people and capital, I decided to start my fund, similar to what Jay-Z did.”

Mr Eazi also revealed his plans to invest in the film industry starting next year, as he continues to expand his entrepreneurial pursuits.
