My journey is not over yet – Ronaldo

Manchester United and Portugal striker, Cristiano Ronaldo, has dismissed talks of retirement, as he focuses on competing with the Portuguese team at this year’s World Cup and in Euro 2024.

Speaking when he received an award for being the top national team goalscorer of all time at the Portuguese football federation’s (FPF) Quinas de Ouro awards in Lisbon on Tuesday, the superstar forward, referring to himself as ‘Cris’ said: “My journey is not over yet, you’re going to have to put up with ‘Cris’ for a while longer. I want to be part of the World Cup and the Euros … I feel very motivated. My ambition is great.”

After 189 caps for Portugal, the 37-year-old, who has 117 goals to his credit, will represent his country in the Qatar World Cup in November, where he hopes to play in his 10th major international competition.

Ronaldo scored two goals against the Republic of Ireland in September 2021, a brace that saw him break Iranian legend, Ali Daei’s previous record of 109 goals scored for a national team.

Despite rumours that he would leave Manchester United this summer, Ronaldo ultimately decided to stay, and despite sitting on the bench for Premier League games, he scored in the team’s final Europa League game against Moldovan side FC Sheriff.
