My son loves Ronaldo – Trump praises Portuguese star during State Dinner
President of the United States, Donald Trump, has revealed that his son, Barron Trump, is an ardent admirer of football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
Trump made the remark after Barron had the opportunity to meet the Portuguese icon ahead of a White House dinner on Tuesday night, where Ronaldo was formally honored by the U.S. leader.
Ronaldo was in Washington, D.C., as part of the delegation accompanying the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, who is on an official visit to the United States.
The Al Nassr captain, who travelled with his fiancée, Georgina Rodriguez, attended the high-profile event dressed in a sleek black tuxedo. He was seated among global power figures including billionaire Elon Musk and U.S. Vice President JD Vance.
During his address at the dinner, Trump singled out the football legend for special recognition.
“This room is filled with some of the biggest leaders in the world – in business, in sports…” Trump said.
“My son is a big fan of Ronaldo. Barron got to meet him, and I think he respects his father a little bit more now – just the fact that I introduced you. So, I just want to thank you both for being here.”
Meanwhile, Ronaldo recently served a suspension following a red card received during Portugal’s FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Ireland. He missed the team’s victory over Armenia on Sunday — a win that secured Portugal’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup, to be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
