No less than 21 out of the 31 members of the Benue State House of Assembly have been placed under watch by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to reliable sources, the members, including principal officers, were recently interrogated by the EFCC, in Abuja, over alleged N750 million messy car deal handled by the Deputy Speaker, James Okefe.
Consequently, the lawmakers have shunned their offices and abandoned their legislative responsibilities.
It is also reported that about 15 bills and motions are hanging in the balance as a result of their absence. Amongst them are bills for prohibition of open grazing and establishment of ranches, fiscal responsibility, private-public partnership and public procurement.
