The Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) has reportedly carried out airstrikes resulting in the neutralization of over 100 bandits in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

A reliable military source informed Channels Television that the bandits, having received information about the presence of troops in the area, chose to retreat to the Dansadau axis of Maru Local Government Area.

Responding swiftly, the Nigerian Air Force conducted targeted airstrikes against the terrorist group, resulting in the elimination of over 100 bandits and the destruction of their motorcycles on Tuesday. Numerous others sustained injuries during the operation.

The remains of the defeated terrorists were interred in mass burials, conducted in the Sangeko forest in Niger State and Babban Doka in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Captain Yahaya Ibrahim, the spokesperson for Operation Hadarin Daji, confirmed the airstrikes but stated that the exact casualty count is yet to be determined.

Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI) at the Nigerian Air Force, affirmed the airstrikes in Zamfara State while refraining from confirming the precise number of casualties.

“Yes, indeed, air strikes were conducted on a number of mobile terrorists but I can’t confirm numbers to you,” he said in a text to Channels Television on Wednesday night.

Zamfara is one of the state worst hit by bandits activities in the north. Others include Niger, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina.
