1. No fewer than five persons were reported dead on Saturday morning following an attack by hoodlums enforcing Simon Ekpa’s five days sit-at-home order in the South East. A viral video circulating online has shown some yet to be identified victims lying lifeless at the front of Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Parklane.
2. Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has thrown its weight behind the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, new cash policies. In a statement on Saturday, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike berated members of the National Assembly for kicking against the policy, saying corruption was fighting back.
3. Bandits who kidnapped a young lady, Adenike, and another older lady, in Abuja Tuesday night, have requested a sum of N100million, and N60million respectively, from their relatives, as ransom for their freedom. Gunmen, numbering seven, had attacked the Kubwa Extension II Relocation Estate, Tuesday night, abducting seven residents and killing two males, during the attack which lasted about an hour.
4. The Olunlosin of Eko Ajala in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State, Sunday Akinwale, has raised the alarm over the invasion of his palace by hoodlums allegedly sponsored by a traditional ruler in the area. Also, the monarch alleged that he was badly beaten by the hoodlums who invaded the palace at midnight and carted away his personal belongings and some artifacts.
5. Women from the 25 local government areas of Delta State yesterday drummed support for the candidates of the Labour Party in next year’s general elections. At a rally tagged “One Million Women March,” they insisted that 2023 is the appropriate time to politically liberate women and give them prime places in the governance of the state.
6. President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday said that there was a need to introduce a highly sustainable model of funding tertiary education to reduce the burden on the government. He said that it would be difficult for the government alone to provide the required resources in funding the system to provide quality education. He stated this at the 46th convocation ceremony of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
7. Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has said he will ensure victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Kashim Shettima in Borno State, saying Shettima’s benevolence must not be betrayed.
Zulum spoke when the wife of APC presidential candidate, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, led the APC women’s North East campaign team on a courtesy call on him in Maiduguri, on Saturday.
8. Some surrendered fighters have disclosed that late Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, left behind 83 concubines. Speaking in Maiduguri on Saturday, Special Adviser to Borno State governor on Security, Brig Gen. Abdullahi Ishaq (rtd), said some of the late Shekau’s associates told him about Shekau’s concubines after they surrendered and embraced peace.
9. Morocco yesterday became the first country to qualify for the semi-finals of a World Cup after they defeated Portugal 1-0 on Saturday. Morocco will now play either France or England for a place in the final.
10. President Muhammadu Buhari will on Sunday, December 11, depart for Washington, USA to join other African leaders at the United States-Africa Leaders Summit. The High Level Meeting which holds December 13-15 is at the instance of the United States President, Joe Biden, who looks forward to “working with African governments.
