1. Former presidential aspirant, Pat Utomi, has claimed two former Heads of State are supporters of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi.
Utomi stated this while speaking at a town hall meeting on Friday, organised by the Yell Out Nigeria for Good Governance in Abuja.
2. Ahead of the forthcoming 2023 presidential election, the Labour Party, LP, candidate, Peter Obi, has finally released his long-awaited 62-page campaign manifesto. The manifesto titled, “Our Pact with Nigerians: Creating a New Nigeria“, unveiled Obi’s proposed plans to lead Nigeria if elected as president.
3. The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) will resume the Abuja-Kaduna passenger train service on Monday, with only two return services. The announcement is contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Managing Director of the NRC, Fidet Okhiria. The statement shows the first train will depart Rigasa train station in Kaduna state to Abuja by 8:00 in the morning while from Abuja, the first train will depart Idu train station to Kaduna state by 9:45 in the morning.
4. The Presidency has revealed that 9 oil-producing states received a total of N625.43 billion 13 per cent oil derivation, subsidy and SURE-P refunds from the Federation Account in the last two years, 2021-2022. According to the statement by Garba Sheri, the Media aide to President Mohammadu Buhari, “the states that received the refunds dating from 1999 to 2021 are Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers.
.5. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has dissociated himself from state governors who dip their hands into local government funds received from the Federation Account. Governor Wike was reacting to the accusation by President Muhammadu Buhari that governors have continued to deliberately deplete remittances released to various councils in their States.
6. The Northern Leaders Consultative Forum has endorsed Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The group comprises Christian and Muslim religious and political leaders in the north — including Yakubu Dogara, former speaker of the house of representatives. The group endorsed Abubakar on Friday at a media conference in Abuja, following the adoption of a report by its technical criteria committee.
7. NANS has declared Monday a nationwide protest. IDOMA VOICE reports that the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students has declared a nationwide protest to demand the release of a student of the Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, Aminu Mohammed, who was arrested and sent to prison over a tweet on Aisha Buhari, wife of President Muhammadu Buhari.
8. Reno Omokri, a socio-political activist has said the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi will lose the 2023 election. Omokri said Obi knows he would lose the presidential election and fade away in history’s dustbin. In a series of tweets, the social critic insisted that Obi was ill-prepared for the presidency.
9. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has insisted that it has two billion litres of petrol, in stock. In a statement on Thursday, Mr Adeyemi Adetunji, Executive Vice President, Downstream, NNPC Limited, noted that with enough fuel in stock, it would cater for motorists and car owners for more than 30 days.
10. A Federal High Court sitting in Minna, the Niger State Capital, has ordered that the Chief of Army Staff, General Farouk Yahaya, be arrested for contempt. Justice Halima Abdulmalik, who issued the warrant and presided over the case, said the order followed notice brought before the court in pursuant of order forty two rule ten of the Niger State High Court Civil Procedure 2018.
