  1. President Bola Tinubu has expressed apprehension over the recent spate of political unrest and military coups in several African countries. In a statement, Tinubu emphasized the need to exhaust all diplomatic avenues before considering military intervention as a last resort. He strongly condemned any forceful overthrow of democratically elected governments, labeling such actions as “wholly unacceptable.”

    Tinubu reiterated these sentiments during a meeting with the Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, which was led by His Eminence, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, at the State House in Abuja. The President highlighted that the option of military intervention, if necessary, had not been discarded but stressed the importance of resolving conflicts through peaceful means.

Felix Anietie Udoh, an imposter posing as an engineer, has been apprehended by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for constructing the ill-fated four-story building that crumbled in September 2022. The collapse resulted in the tragic death of one individual and inflicted severe injuries on five others.

    Among the 96 suspects apprehended by the state police command from July to August 2023, Udoh was presented to the public at the Uyo police headquarters by Commissioner of Police Olatoye Durosinmi. Durosinmi stated, “Recall that on the 17th of September 2022, a four-story building located at No. 3 Iman Street, behind Zenith Bank, off Aka Road, Uyo, collapsed, leading to the death of one Favour Chukwuemeka Okoro, while five persons were rescued.”

Professor Emem Bassey, the Chairman of the Committee of Chief Medical Directors of Federal Tertiary Hospitals, has raised the alarm that Nigeria is experiencing a concerning exodus of its medical doctors and other healthcare professionals to other African countries. Bassey revealed that countries such as Sierra Leone and Gambia are enticing Nigerian medical professionals with offers ranging from $3,000 to $4,000, a striking three to four times more than their earnings in Nigeria.
