  1. Former aviation minister, Hadi Sirika, has come under scrutiny by Nigeria’s secret police, the Department of State Services (DSS), regarding the recent “launch” of Nigeria Air.

  2. Award-winning singer Davido has taken a notable step in response to his logistics manager, Isreal DMW’s unsolicited help. Davido unfollowed Isreal on Instagram after the latter issued an apology to the Muslim community on Davido’s behalf.

    The controversy stemmed from a music video that Davido had tweeted to promote his music artiste, Logos Olori. The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has initiated the process of resettling and reintegrating Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state back to their ancestral homes. Governor Alia, during his visit to the IDP camps in Makurdi and Guma Local Government Areas on July 26, 2023, expressed deep concern over the pitiable conditions in which a large number of displaced people are living, lacking basic necessities such as food, water, and shelter.

    Acknowledging the support of the United Nations and other organizations in promoting global peace and security, Governor Alia emphasized that security remains a pressing issue in Benue State, particularly concerning conflicts between herders and farmers. He sought the assistance of the United Nations in implementing comprehensive security initiatives and conflict resolution mechanisms to establish a peaceful and secure environment for all Benue residents.

  4. The Federal Ministry of Transportation is encouraging Nigerians to consider bicycles as a sustainable and healthier alternative for commuting in a bid to promote a cleaner environment and healthier lifestyle.

    During a one-day stakeholders’ sensitization meeting in Abuja, the Director of Road Transport and Mass Transit Administration, Musa Ibrahim, emphasized the importance of cycling to reduce road crash incidences. The initiative aligns with the annual celebration of World Bicycle Day on June 3, as designated by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution.

Commissioners in the Federal Character Commission (FCC) have accused the commission’s Chairwoman, Mrs. Farida Dankaka, of engaging in the unethical practice of “selling jobs” within Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for dollars. The allegations were brought to light during an investigation by the House of Representatives Ad hoc committee in Abuja, focusing on employment racketeering in MDAs and Tertiary Institutions.

    Among the commissioners making the allegations are Mr. Abdulrasaq Adeoye, representing Osun; Mr. James Dan’iya, representing Kwara; Abdulwasiu Bawa-Allah, representing Lagos State; Mr. Moses Anaughe, representing Delta; Mr. Mamman Alakayi, representing Nasarawa, and others.

  8. Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the former Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism in Nigeria, has been appointed as the Special Advisor to Mr. Zurab Pololikashvili, the Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).

    The announcement of Mohammed’s appointment was made during the opening session of the 66th UNWTO Commission for Africa (CAF) in Mauritius.
