Naija News, read Top Headlines today, Friday, 4th August 2023 below.

Below are the Newspaper Headlines & Naija News today from Nigerian Newspapers. Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

  1. As per our correspondent’s report, the Federal Ministry of Finance has issued an order for all directors who have completed eight years in the directorate cadre to submit their notices for early retirement. This directive aligns with the newly introduced tenure limit for directors in the Federal Civil Service.

The memo, dated August 3, 2023, and signed by the ministry’s Director of Administration, Mariya Rufai, was circulated to all directors and heads of ministry units.

  2. The Federal Government has issued a directive to Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors in Federal Tertiary Hospitals regarding the ongoing strike by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD). They have been instructed to implement a no-work, no-pay policy for the striking members of NARD. Additionally, the hospitals are required to maintain an attendance register for all resident doctors who are willing to work.

The letter conveying these instructions was written by the Federal Ministry of Health and was addressed to the CMDs and MDs of all Federal Tertiary Hospitals in the country. The letter, titled “Re: Incessant Strike Action by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors: Implementation of the Federal Government’s ‘No Work, No Pay’ Policy,” was signed by Dr. Andrew Noah, Director of Hospital Services. Our correspondent obtained the letter on Thursday.

  3. On Thursday, August 03, 2023, the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia, officially inaugurated the Visitation Panel to Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi. The ceremony took place at the Old Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi.

Represented by his Deputy, Barr. Sam Ode, Governor Alia charged the panel members with a crucial task: to conduct a comprehensive investigation, delve into the details, and make recommendations that will contribute to the advancement of the institution.

  4. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has taken the decision to suspend Airport Taxi Services at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja. In light of the lingering factional crisis among the car hire operators, passengers and staff are now encouraged to explore alternative transportation options.

According to a statement released by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, the suspension comes into effect immediately. The ongoing dispute among car hire operators has been negatively impacting airport car hire service operations, leading to the decisive action.

    5. On Thursday, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) elected former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, as the National Chairman, and Ajibola Basiru from Osun State as National Secretary during the 12th NEC meeting held in Abuja.

Ganduje promised to uphold internal democracy, ensure a scientific register of party members, and pay attention to election management and conflict resolution.

    6.  President Bola Tinubu has hailed the 2023 election that brought him to power as the most credible ever in Nigeria’s history, despite ongoing legal challenges.

President Tinubu stated, “Yes, we are facing challenges in court, but I think this is the most credible election in Nigeria. So, we must congratulate ourselves. As a democrat, those who cannot accept the results of a free and fair election do not deserve the joy of victory.”

    7. The recent attempt at reconciliation between the organized labour and the Nigerian Federal Government has faltered, putting the nation on edge as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) threatens to embark on a nationwide strike from August 14. The development comes after the Federal Ministry of Justice filed a contempt of court application against the labour leaders on Wednesday.

The disagreement revolves around the government’s accusation that the labour leadership disobeyed court orders during the protests that were initially planned last month. In an effort to prevent the strike, the Federal Ministry of Justice obtained a court order restraining the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) from conducting any strike action over issues relating to the removal of fuel subsidy and the increase in petrol prices, pending the resolution of the legal suit.

    8. The Lagos chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has taken swift action by inaugurating a panel to investigate the tragic death of Diaso Vwaere, a medical doctor, in an elevator accident at General Hospital, Lagos Island.

The incident, reported by TheCable, occurred when the elevator suddenly fell from the 10th floor of the building on Tuesday while Diaso, who was undergoing her horsemanship at the hospital, was inside.

    9. Hermes Chibueze Iyele, a former contestant of the Big Brother Naija reality show, recently encountered a car accident. Fortunately, he emerged from the incident without any injuries.

Taking to his Instagram story, Hermes shared pictures of his black Mercedes, which suffered damage in the collision. Expressing his gratitude to God for his safety, the reality star wrote, “Bless God for life and safety.”

    10. Cynthia Nwadiora, popularly known as CeeC, a housemate on Big Brother Naija All Stars, has addressed rumors of a potential romantic connection with Cross.

During a heart-to-heart conversation with Princess on Thursday, CeeC made it clear that she is not emotionally attracted to Cross. She emphasized that they are not pursuing a romantic relationship and that she does not have any feelings for him.
