  1. The United States of America has expanded the language options available for the Maryland Learner’s Permit Tests, with Yoruba now included among them. Yoruba language joins nine other new languages that will be offered in the Maryland Learner’s Permit Tests.

    Starting this month, drivers can opt for their learner’s permit tests in a range of languages, including Tagalog, Amharic, Arabic, Russian, Urdu, Hindi, Farsi, Portuguese, and American Sign Language, in addition to Yoruba.

  2. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has issued a warning to Nigerians, urging them not to accept unpackaged food items when traveling, following the interception of narcotics hidden in packs of semovita and dry pepper.

    In a statement released by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, on their official X account (formerly known as Twitter), NDLEA revealed that their operatives had discovered various quantities of ephedrine, skunk, and nitrous oxide concealed in semovita and dry pepper packages intended for shipment to South Africa and Kenya through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

  3. In a compelling sermon titled ‘Uncommon Miracles’ during the September Thanksgiving Service at the National Headquarters of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Lagos, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of RCCG, delivered an inspiring message. He reminisced about a time when the Nigerian currency, the naira, held more value than the American dollar and conveyed his belief that those “glorious days” would return.

    Recalling his own experiences of financial miracles during his early leadership of the church, Pastor Adeboye emphasized that the naira had greater purchasing power compared to the dollar in the past. He offered a heartfelt prayer for the resurgence of such favorable economic conditions.

  4. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has clinched a comprehensive triumph in the local government election held in Edo State. According to results released by the State Independent Electoral Commission, the PDP emerged victorious in all 18 Local Government Areas.

    In addition to the PDP, major political parties such as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP) participated in the election, vying for Chairmanship and Councillorship positions in all the wards.

  5. The Catholic Diocese of Otukpo has formally announced the death of Rev Fr Ambrose Ameh Ejeh.  IDOMA VOICE reports that Rev Fr Ejeh died during the weekend at the of 61.

    Rev. Fr. Joseph Aboyi ltodo Chancellor, Catholic Diocese of Otukpo in a statement confirmed the sad incident in a statement issued on Sunday.

  6. Lauretta Onochie, former Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) board, has denied reports suggesting that she was forcibly evicted from an apartment in the United Kingdom.

    Earlier reports had alleged that Onochie was left stranded and embarrassed after being removed from the residence by family members.

  7. Mary Ukaego Odili, a retired Nigerian judge and the wife of former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili, has become a hot topic on the microblogging site, X (formerly known as Twitter).

    Her recent trending status is attributed to a video where she made remarks at an event, particularly singling out Olanipekun SAN, who is associated with Tinubu, and Lateef Fagbemi, the APC lawyer and Tinubu’s Attorney General, whom she praised as excellent lawyers.

  8. With the rise in coups in Africa, some retired generals have warned that the only way to avoid them on the continent was for elected leaders to respect constitutional provisions and ensure good governance in their respective countries.

    Recall that some military personnel in Gabon seized power and placed the ousted President, Ali Bongo, and his family members under house arrest. Gabon is in Central Africa.

  10. Odoh Ugwu, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment, and Climate in Benue State, has issued a stern warning to residents residing along the banks of the River Benue. The commissioner has urged them to swiftly relocate to safer areas in light of Cameroon’s impending plans to open the Lagdo dam.

    Commissioner Ugwu delivered this urgent advisory during his official visit to the Greater Makurdi Water Works, situated along the River Benue, shortly after assuming his responsibilities as commissioner.
