  1. Aviation employees, including pilots and engineers, have issued a notification regarding an indefinite nationwide strike set to commence on Tuesday, October 2, 2023. This decision aligns with the ongoing strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC). The strike is a response to the immense suffering, impoverishment, and hunger in the country due to the surge in petrol prices.

    According to a report by Daily Trust, the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), and the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP), all integral unions in the aviation sector, have jointly confirmed their intention to participate in the strike. This move will significantly disrupt flight operations nationwide.

  2. Adeniyi Ojo, the Managing Director of Water View Hotel located in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, has passed away.

    On Thursday, around 10:00 hours, Mr. Ojo’s lifeless body was discovered on one of the beds in a hotel room, as per a police report.

  3. In a race against time to avert the nationwide strike planned from October 3, the Federal Government has hastily summoned an emergency meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC).

    It was gathered that the crucial meeting is scheduled to take place later this evening at the Aso Villa, specifically in the Conference Room of the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President.

  4. The National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Enugu State has invalidated the victory of Hon. Okey Mbah, a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the March 18 House of Assembly election for Nkanu East constituency.

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had initially announced Mbah as the winner, but the tribunal, in its ruling on Friday, asserted that the electoral process did not comply with the provisions stipulated in the 2022 Electoral Act.

  5. A retired Major-General identified as Maj Gen RC Duru (rtd) was ambushed and abducted by unknown gunmen in the Orji General area of Owerri North Local Government Area, Imo State.

    The retired Major-General was driving himself in a black Mercedes Benz ML jeep when the armed assailants carried out the ambush. The gunmen, numbering four and travelling in a Toyota Sienna, forcibly took control of the vehicle and abducted Maj Gen RC Duru.

  6. An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure has granted leave to the deputy governor of Ondo state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to serve all processes filed in the suit on the state House of Assembly, its speaker, Olamide Oladiji, and the Clerk, Benjamin Jaiyeola.
    Justice O. Akintan-Osadebay ordered that all processes filed in the suit be served on the defendants by posting on the front side wall/fence or entrance gate or any conspicuous area of the Assembly Complex.

    He also directed the processes to be pasted on the notice board of the High Court of Justice, Akure.

  7. Ms. Greatness Olorunfemi, a prominent community developer and a member of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Network, fell victim to a heinous act perpetrated by the dreaded ‘One Chance’ syndicate in Abuja. The horrifying event unfolded on September 26th when Greatness was violently thrown from a moving vehicle along the Maitama-Kubwa arterial highway, Vanguard reports. 

    The tragedy has shone a harsh light on the escalating insecurity plaguing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), prompting an urgent call to action from the YALI Network Abuja. They have implored the FCT Minister, Chief Nyesom Wike, and pertinent security agencies to prioritize the safety of Abuja residents. Additionally, they are urging for a comprehensive investigation into Greatness’ murder and a swift prosecution of those responsible.

  8. Nigerian socialite Balogun Olamilekan Eletu, popularly known as Sam Larry, has shed light on the altercation between him and late singer Mohbad, stating that it revolved around an unsettled debt of N2 million.

    The controversy arose after a video surfaced on social media showing Sam Larry and a group confronting Mohbad during a music video shoot with Zlatan. The incident drew ire from the public, accusing Sam Larry of bullying and intimidating the late singer.

  9. Terrorists abducted a total of 31 individuals from the Tsohon Kabula and Zagzaga communities within Niger state’s Munya local government area.

    The abduction unfolded on Thursday, September 28, as the terrorists infiltrated the community on foot. Among those kidnapped, 23 were taken from the Tsohon Kabula community, while eight women were abducted from Zagzaga.

  10. The final stages of the maiden Governor Seyi Makinde Basic Education Schools Sports Competition, held at the Olubadan Stadium, Iyaganku, Ibadan today.

    The 2023 Edition of the ‘Governor Seyi Makinde Basic Education School Sport (BESS) Competition’ was organized by the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
