1. The leaders of the nationwide protest against bad governance in Katsina State have been arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS).
According to Vanguard, Kabir Shehu Yandaki and Habibu Ruma, leaders of the “Struggle for Good Governance” protest, were invited to the DSS office in Katsina and subsequently detained.
2. A 32-year-old social media user, Mustapha Mohammed, has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for alleged false allegation.
The Police said in a statement obtained Friday that Mustapha fabricated a statement on his Facebook page on May 30, 2024 against the member representing Mubi North/Mubi South/Maiha Federal Constituency of Adamawa State.
3. Nigeria’s Inflation may worsen as the country’s Money supply (M3), which measures the total amount of money in an economy reached an all-time high of N101.34 million in June 2024.
This is according to recent data from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
4. As the nationwide hunger protests entered the second day, human rights lawyer Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa has called on Nigerians to suspend the demonstrations immediately.
Adegboruwa made the plea in a statement on Friday while reacting to the losses recorded during the ongoing demonstrations, stating that it was not the goal of the protests.
5. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, during the 2023 elections has commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives during the #EndBadGoverance protests.
Several citizens have died since the nationwide protests began on Thursday, August 1.
6. Despite a 24-hour curfew order, reports indicated that protesting youths in Potiskum town of Yobe State have set ablaze a vehicle belonging to the Red Cross Divisional Office.
The protesters were said to have looted items in the divisional office.
7. A domestic worker of Aribemchukwu, the daughter of Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, has confessed to being involved in her murder, a police source revealed on Thursday.
Recall that Aribemchukwu, known as Chuchu, was killed in her Parkview Estate residence in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
8. The Nigerian military has said it will intervene if violence recorded in some states in the ongoing nationwide protest tagged #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria escalates.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, during a press conference in Abuja, said the military would step in to control the looting and violence being witnessed in some parts of the country.
9 A Senator representing Zamfara West senatorial zone, Alhaji Abdul Aziz Yari has cautioned Nigerians against joining the planned nationwide protest which started Thursday, August 1.
Addressing a mammoth crowd in his country home at Talata-Mafara on Wednesday, Senator Yari said, the pockets of protests would not solve the country’s problems, which according to him, have been in existence for decades.
10. Team Nigeria will be involved in six events on Friday (today) as the athletics event of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games hits the running.
