  1. The Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a spot in the semi-finals of the ongoing 2023 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup in Cote d’Ivoire after defeating Angola on Friday. Ademola Lookman’s lone goal in the 41st minute proved to be the decisive factor in Nigeria’s victory.

  2. The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) @OfficialPDPNig has, on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party approved the appointment of Hon. Ajisafe Kamoru Toyese from Osun State as the Party’s new National Vice Chairman (South West).

    Hon. Ajisafe Kamoru Toyese, a lawyer and engineer who also served as the Deputy Director General of the 2023 PDP Presidential Campaign Organization, is to complete the tenure of the late National Vice Chairman (South West), Hon. Soji Adagunodo, who died on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.

  3. A series of sustained attacks in Agatu local government area of Benue State, Nigeria, has resulted in the cold-blooded killing of 55 farmers by suspected armed herders from January 18, 2024, to the present date. Disturbing reports indicate that, following the brutal attacks, the armed herders abducted the children of the deceased and took them to an unknown destination.

    The assaults, which commenced on January 18, 2024, have continued unabated, causing the displacement of thousands of people. Many are now seeking refuge in neighbouring Kogi State, while numerous others are reported missing. The casualties include 32 corpses recovered in the first attack, eight in the second, and an additional 15 in the latest attack on Wednesday night.

  4. Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, handed down a six-month prison sentence to Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, an actress, on Thursday. The conviction was based on her act of spraying and stepping on new Naira notes during a social event in Lagos, as reported by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a statement.

    The EFCC disclosed that Omoseyin was initially arraigned on February 13, 2023, on two charges, to which she pleaded “not guilty” and was subsequently granted bail on February 15, 2023.

  5. Unidentified gunmen invaded Koro community in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, resulting in the death of the community’s monarch, General Segun Aremu (rtd), known as the Olukoro of Koro. The assailants also abducted the monarch’s wife and two others.

    Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has condemned the brutal killing of the Olukoro of Koro, describing it as reckless and abominable. In a statement, he urged security agencies to deploy all necessary resources to track down the perpetrators, rescue the abducted individuals, and ensure that the criminals face justice.

  6. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nominee for the upcoming February 3 bye-election in Ebonyi South, Silas Onu, has responded to his removal by the court just hours before the election.

    Onu claims that his disqualification was orchestrated with political motives to demoralize his supporters.

  7. Residents of Akwa Ibom state are now living in a climate of fear following a horrifying incident on Wednesday night, wherein a police inspector named Osang was ruthlessly beheaded at his private residence situated between Enen Afaha and Afaha Ube, suburban areas within the Uyo metropolis.

    TheNation reported that a group of more than ten assailants carried out the gruesome attack. Eyewitnesses described moments of intense gunfire that prompted panic, causing residents and passersby to scramble for safety amid the chaos.

  8. Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has nominated six persons for appointment as Commissioners.

    In a statement issued on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the governor said the nominees will assist him in the day-to-day running of the government of the state.

  9. Some prominent Nigerians, on Thursday, joined Vice President Kashim Shettima for the burial of his stepmother, Hajia Hausa Abba Kormi, in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

    Among the dignitaries at the funeral ceremony were Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State and the delegation from the Presidency led by the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, among others.

  10. The appeal to dismiss terrorism charges against five followers of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State was rebuffed by Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

    The Judge declined the request made by the current Chief of Staff to the governor, Edison Ehie, to terminate the charges.
