Below are the Newspaper Headlines & Naija News today from Nigerian Newspapers. Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

  1. The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Benue will on Sunday, September 10, 2023, deliver its judgement on the petition filled by Daniel Onjeh of the All Progressives Congress, APC, against election of Senator Abba Moro of the Peoples Democratic Party in Benue South.

Onjeh had dragged Moro to court on the ground that the election that ushered in the latter was fraudulent.
The APC candidate in the last election is seeking outright declaration as winner of the poll.

  2. The National/State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, situated in Makurdi, has reaffirmed the election of Rep. Philip Agbese of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the representative for the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency in Benue State.

The verdict, delivered on a Saturday in Makurdi by Justice Emeka Dada, was a unanimous decision in which the petitions filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) candidates, challenging the election results, were dismissed.

  3. Cristiano Ronaldo, the captain of Portugal, will be absent for Monday’s Euro 2024 qualifying match against Luxembourg due to suspension. The Al-Nassr forward received a yellow card during their 1-0 victory over Slovakia on Friday.

Ronaldo had a stroke of luck when he unintentionally struck former Manchester United teammate Martin Dubravka in the face with his foot, avoiding more severe consequences.

  4. The Benin Zonal Command of the EFCC in Warri, Delta State, a total of 41 individuals suspected of internet fraud have been apprehended.

The arrests were carried out on Friday, based on actionable intelligence pointing to their illicit activities within the region.

  5. On Friday, the legal team representing Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), confirmed that they had obtained the Certified True Copies of the judgment from the Presidential Election Petition Court. Similarly, the legal team of Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) flagbearer in the February 25, 2023 election, also acknowledged receiving these documents.

Recalling recent events, the presidential tribunal had recently dismissed the petition filed by Atiku and Obi challenging President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the election.

  6. Amnesty International, a prominent international human rights advocacy organization, has criticized the government led by President Bola Tinubu for revoking the accreditation of 25 journalists covering the Aso Villa.

In a statement, Amnesty International expressed its concern that this action represents a significant setback for press freedom in the country.

  7. Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye assumed the position of the new Soun of Ogbomoso in the early hours of Friday. This installation took place despite a recent Oyo State High Court order instructing the state governor and others not to present him with the instrument of office.

Justice K.A Adedokun led the court’s ruling, which also prohibited Olaoye from acting as the candidate for any ceremony related to the issuance of a certificate of installation or wearing any attire resembling that of the Soun of Ogbomoso Chieftaincy until the court hears and conclusively decides on the pending mandatory injunction.

  8. The former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has issued a passionate call to action.

In an exclusive interview with Channels Television, the prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded the immediate suspension of key party figures, including the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

  9. The Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso has issued an order prohibiting Governor Seyi Makinde from officially presenting any instrument of office or certificate of office to Prince Afolabi Olaoye, who was announced as the Soun-elect on Saturday. This ruling comes following the vacancy created by the passing of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, the former Soun of Ogbomoso.

Governor Makinde had initially approved the selection of Prince Afolabi Olaoye as the Soun-elect. However, the court has intervened, restraining the governor, the State’s Attorney General, and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, or any of their representatives, from conducting any formal installation ceremony or issuing a certificate of installation to Olaoye until a final decision has been reached in a pending mandatory injunction case.

  10. Unknown gunmen have shot a popular footballer, Haaven Felix, famously known as Fabregas. It was gathered that the young man was shot Saturday night around Benue State University’s first camp, IDOMA VOICE reports.

Humanitarian Ukan Kurugh, who confirmed the development, said the victim has been rushed to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, but there is no doctor on ground to attend to him.
