Naija News, read Top Headlines today, Tuesday, 29th August 2023 below.

Below are the Newspaper Headlines & Naija News today from Nigerian Newspapers. Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

  1. The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has demolished a duplex built on a plot said to belong to Alake of Egba Land.

The demolished building was located at Plot 226 Cadastral Zone, A02 Wuse 1, Wuse Zone 6 District, and was constructed against all warnings by the designated authorities.

  2. Kenneth Eze, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information, has asserted that the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not be upturned.

Eze, therefore, called upon the leadership and constituents of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, as well as the broader Nigerian population, to dismiss any apprehensions stemming from opposition-fueled rumours regarding the legitimacy of President Bola Tinubu’s victory.

  3. The Acting Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), James Anodoakaa Iorpuu has embarked on a sensitization and awareness campaign on the need for people to vacate flood-prone areas.

The notification is in response to the release of water from the LAGDO-DAM of Cameroon over River Benue. The flood is said to affect people living around the banks of River Benue and people occupying flood-prone areas across 22 Local Government Areas.

  4. Reports indicate that a group of citizens from Bayelsa State has forcibly entered a warehouse where palliatives were stored for distribution to a specific group of individuals.

The warehouse, situated along Isaac Boro Expressway in Yenagoa, the state capital, was reportedly raided on Sunday.

    5. President Bola Tinubu has filed a request with a U.S. court, seeking protection from media exposure by keeping his records from Chicago State University (CSU) confidential. In recent court filings, Tinubu argued that the disclosure of his CSU records could jeopardize his reputation as the Nigerian president.

Tinubu is actively opposing an application aiming to release his CSU credentials, asserting that making them public would furnish Nigerian bloggers with ammunition to tarnish his reputation and undermine his authority.

    6. President Bola Tinubu has issued a directive to the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ordering the cessation of visa processing for government officials planning to travel to New York for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The directive, received this afternoon, is a pivotal element of a broader strategy aimed at curbing governance expenses in Nigeria, according to a statement by his media aide, Ajuri Ngelale.

    7. Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, is gearing up for a triumphant return to the Premier League, as he readies himself to make a move to Nottingham Forest.

While initial summer rumors linked him to Bayern Munich, this fresh wave of transfer speculation appears to hold more substance, as it gains traction with the endorsement of renowned football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who shared this development on Sunday.

    8. A dramatic incident took place at the Edo State Government House, involving security personnel who prevented Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu from approaching Governor Godwin Obaseki during a public event on Sunday.

Images of the incident circulated on social media platforms, capturing Governor Obaseki and his wife seated while a security aide stood in front of them, restricting access during the Interdenominational Thanksgiving Church Service commemorating Edo’s 32nd anniversary. The event was held at the Festival Hall, Government House.

    9. Legal action has been initiated by the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking Foundation (NACAT) against Mr. Folashodun Shonubi, the acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and Mr. Edward Adamu, a Deputy Governor at the bank. Allegations put forward by NACAT indicate that both individuals failed to fulfill their obligation of declaring their assets to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

The lawsuit, lodged at a Federal High Court in Abuja, names NACAT’s legal representative, John Ainetor of Festus Keyamo Chambers, as the plaintiff. The Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau is also listed as a defendant in this case.

    10. Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 election, has again questioned the controversy greeting the academic history of President Bola Tinubu.

Atiku, who is currently praying a United States of America court to prevail on the Chicago State University to clarify the inconsistency in the certificates it issued to President Tinubu, said unless a clarification is made, it is difficult, if not impossible, for the public to understand the academic journey of the former Lagos State Governor.
