  1. A tragic motor accident occurred around the Lukoro area in Edati Local Government Area of Niger State, claiming the lives of a newly wedded bride, her five bridesmaids, brother-in-law, and six others. The fatal incident took place on Friday evening.

Reports indicate that the car, transporting the late bride, lost control due to over speeding and improper overtaking, resulting in a collision with an oncoming vehicle. An eyewitness revealed that out of the 20 individuals involved in the accident, 13 lost their lives, while seven others sustained critical injuries.

  2. The Ogun State Police Command successfully rescued nine out of the ten members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Lagos who were abducted by gunmen last Thursday on their return from Ibadan. The State Police Commissioner, Mr. Abiodun Alamutu, confirmed this development during a news briefing in Abeokuta on Monday.

Among those freed was Mr. Phillip Aivoji, the Chairman of PDP in Lagos. Regrettably, during the exchange of gunfire between the police and the criminals, one of the abductees, Bilikisu Kazeem, lost her life.

  3. Primary school teachers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) resumed their duties on Monday following the intervention of Mr. Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister. The teachers had previously initiated an indefinite strike to push for the implementation of a 40% Peculiar Allowance and the settlement of 25 months’ worth of minimum wage arrears, among other outstanding payments.

Mrs. Margaret Jethro, the Secretary of the FCT chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), disclosed this information in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday.

  4. As the tenure of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello, ended on January 27, 2024, there are strong indications that he may be invited for questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Bello, who previously enjoyed immunity while in office, is now susceptible to investigation and potential legal actions, DailyTimes reports.

Sources suggest that the EFCC and other security agencies are preparing to question Bello regarding his eight years of administration as the executive Governor of Kogi State. The move comes after the expiration of Bello’s immunity, making him subject to scrutiny for alleged financial infractions and money laundering.

  5. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has strongly rejected the claims made by Femi Adesina, former media aide to ex-President Bola Tinubu, regarding President Muhammadu Buhari’s alleged intervention to prevent the elimination of Nnamdi Kanu, a pro-Biafra agitator.

In Adesina’s book, “Working with Buhari: reflections of a special adviser, media and publicity (2015-2023),” he asserted that Buhari opted for Kanu’s arrest over suggestions to eliminate him. In response, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, dismissed Adesina’s book as “toilet paper” and criticized the former aide’s attempt to gain attention through Kanu’s mention.

  6. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced the injection of an additional $500 million to address the foreign exchange backlog.

Hakama Sidi Ali, Acting Director of the Corporate Communications Department at the CBN, made this known Abuja on Monday.

  7. The winner of the 2023 gubernatorial election in Kogi State, Usman Ododo, has been sworn in as the governor of the state.

This comes barely three months after he was elected to take over from Yahaya Bello, who has completed his second term in office.

  8. A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has said the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, is ridiculing President Bola Tinubu over his recent comment.

Recall that Ganduje had stated during a recent interview that he would be the grandfather and leader of the 2023 presidential candidate of the NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso if he decamps to the ruling APC.

  9. The Rivers State House of Assembly has levelled accusations against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, alleging illegalities in his recent appointments.

Speaker Martin Amaewhule accused during Monday’s plenary session at the Assembly Quarters in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
